One Final Florida Post

We visited the Miami Aquarium Sunday.  Colby didn't know what to think of the parrot on his arm!

More Florida pictures

Note the iguanas

Florida

We spent the weekend in Key Biscayne Florida. Brian was here for work since Wednesday so Ashley and Colby flew down Friday afternoon.

We spent most of the day Saturday at the pool. Colby loved the waterfall and watching the iguanas on the property. Several other guests commented on how "smiley" he was.

While Mommy is away

Mrs. Grace arrived early so that Daddy could go to work. When Colby woke she dressed and fed him. Then it was off to daycare at our Church. Colby helped by carrying his lunch all by himself.
Notice how well he is dressed and his neatly combed hair!

The report at the end of the day was great. He played and napped nicely and followed the teachers instructions. Daddy is very proud and hopefully Mommy sleeps well knowing her son is in good hands.

Election thoughts

I am still thinking about election implications. This has been in my mind for months. Now I only have one person to think about which makes it a bit easier. The best article I have read on the topic is this one. I encourage everyone to read it several times.

Election -- the day after

I feel like a deer on the 2nd day of hunting season.  I made it past the first day (ie, four years of human time) but now face an even greater obstacle -- the 2nd day (ie, the next four years) -- as the target on my back is larger than ever.  Hopefully, the hunters can’t shoot straight.

Hurricane Sandy

Our power was restored Friday evening.  It felt good to sleep in our own bed without worrying about any damage to our home and whether Colby and Ashley were too cold.  We are thankful we only lost electricity for four days as so many other families are in far worse shape.

We toured the Compo Beach area of Westport Saturday afternoon.  Restoration work had been going on since Tuesday afternoon but the signs of the storm were still readily apparent.

Here you can see the paths carved into the sand by the water.

The town built a barricade of sand walls in an attempt to help protect the nice homes.  They've now begun to rebuild the beach.

This house is the first of several on a peninsula.  We could not walk all the way to the end due to the extent of the damage.  The home of one of our friends was badly damaged and a portion is supported by wood beams.

This area is usually covered by grass not sand.

What is usually well-groomed sand is now rough and uneven.

A brick wall at the pavilion was demolished.  The chain link fence is usually not there but is serving to keep people away from the ruble.

Colby's favorite place - the playground - is inundated with sand.

We felt bad about taking pictures of people's damaged homes.  Here is one to show how high the water came.  A majority of the homeowners were busy cleaning up and most had contractors working to dry out the flooded portions.

We are on vacation

Last night was not all fun. We warmed Colby's bath water by placing our tea kettle on the outdoor grill. We bathed him in our kitchen sink.

The temperature in our home dropped so we had Colby in our bed in an effort to keep him warm. He did not sleep well and consequently neither did we.

So, Daddy found a hotel with a vacancy and the ABC family find themselves on this Thursday night on "vacation" in Stamford, CT.

Slowly getting back to normal

Brian drove 15 miles to Stamford early Thursday morning. Train service into Manhattan has resumed but not from his normal stop of Greens Farms. Ashley, meanwhile, will also be productive as her employer is open for business. Still no power in our home though which also means no hot water for our morning showers!
